Welcome to my nightmare.

So here’s why writers don’t get cocky no matter how well their books are selling. The actual work of writing never changes. This is Lakeshore Christmas. Or it will be if I get my revisions done and make my deadline. After I sent this baby off to my publisher, my editor and copy editor had their way with it, and suddenly the baby is ugly all over again. The blue tabs at the tops of the pages are the revisions I’ve accomplished so far. The ones down the side are sections I still need to rewrite. By next week.

weekend o fun
weekend o' fun

Oh, and yes indeed, that is fresh snow you see in the background out the window. Thanks for asking!

  1. Oh, man! I’m searching for something inspirational to say… Umm…

You can do it! (Yeah, pretty stale, I know)

But once you’ve done it, it’ll look so nice and white again–just like that fresh blanket of snow. 😀

Hey, at least if you’re stuck in all weekend editing, shoveling isn’t really a priority, right? 😉

    Good luck!

  3. Welllllll…

I appreciate all your hard work because I can’t wait to hold that baby in my hot, little hands! I canNOT get enough of the Lakeshore Chronicles…I regularly mention you as one of my favorite authors on my blog and on a book bulletin board I post on and recommend the Lakeshore Chronicles to the point that I believe some people are sick of hearing about them from me!

  5. Oh, Susan. It’s been a grey and dreary winter here in my part of the world, but THAT kind of color sure doesn’t look cheerful. I guess it helps mark progress to move a tab…yikes.

Still, I have every confidence that you’ll work wonders on it.

  7. Okay, I’ll put on my Pollyanna bonnet.

I often wonder after my all-time favorite authors make the bestseller lists if their editors even bother to edit them anymore. Because so many times, the books become…well…so obviously less well-written.

Obviously, your editor cares enough to want the very best, and that’s a good thing.

    Right?

Oy. But soooo not fun! Best of luck and hang in there!

  13. Winter, winter everywhere. Perhaps the fresh snow will give you a bit of inspiration as you rewrite. We appreciate all your hard work! It only makes the book much more appreciated by us who love to read a well written book. “Knocking on the table” for all the well written lines, Susan.

Lets all have a piece of chocolate with Susan. A little sweetness for the soul. Mmmm.

  15. Ouch. I’m going through my current NF final proof mss and madly finding errors. Just got a “when do you think you’ll get this done? No pressure, but we go to print next week” email from my editor. Thanks for making me feel better about MY mess!!!!

[Yes, I know that was why you did it…]

Good luck finishing on time–I’m sure you’ll do fine. And you know what they say: misery loves company!

  19. I have no doubt you will get this done. Your fans are pulling for you. Be like the little engine that could, but instead of “I think I can” you the phrase, ” I know I can, I know I can”.
And like that little engine that could, did, so can you!!!!!

So scale the mountain and you will soon be running down the other side.

Good luck, although I know you don’t really need it.
