So on the New York Times web site they’re talking about the biopic “The Blind Side” about a disadvantaged youngster adopted as a teenager by a wealthy family. The debate seems to be about the racial stereotypes…but there really is no debate. It happened the way it happened.
It’s an incredible story. Read the book or article and you’ll agree.
The article referenced above sparked a debate in the comments section. They want to know what the best sports movies of all time are.
My favorites were not mentioned (surprise) so here they are:Â
Does “Last of the Mohicans” with Daniel Day-Lewis count?
If not, then it’s “Victory” with Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine and a bunch of other eye candy, about a soccer team of WWII POWs who take on the Nazi pros. A close second… Maybe “Hoosiers”?
Field of Dreams and Bull Durham are high on my list. How can they not be? Both are as close to perfection as a baseball movie can get. Ditton “The Natural” with Robert Redford.
No! “The Cutting Edge” about pairs figure skating. Be still my heart.
There. Aren’t you glad you asked?
How about you? What are your favorite sports movies?

I loved the movie “Radio” and also “Remeber the Titans”.. And who cannot forget the “Lou Gherig” story.. Also “Brian Song” about footballer Brian Picalo and his friendship with fellow footballer Gayle Sayers.. There are so many true “sport” movies to choose from. Or the baseball movie about baseball player Jimmy Johnson, played by Dennis Quaid but for the life of me I can’t remember the name of it..

The boy actually doesn’t like sports movies. He loves Miracle and joins the guys the mass of men who like Rudy.
I really liked We Are Marshall and Remember the Titans mainly because I didn’t know a lot about either story until the movie. And Matthew McConaghey, Matthew Fox and Denzel Washington. 🙂
If my dad doesn’t mind babysitting 2 crazy kids, I may see The Blind Side. I didn’t have a huge desire to see it, but I think my mom likes the idea of going with both of her girls versus only one. It’s somehow not fair in her eyes to only take one of us even though one of us doesn’t really want to see it.

I have to second “Remember the Titans” I am not a big football fan but I did love that movie and will even watch it again.
Blind Side is on my movie list to see this season.

Seabiscuit – the most recently done version, from the book by Laura Hillenbrand. Racing is in my blood, and I knew a lot of people who worked on it – Gary Stevens and Chris McCarron rode in the match race sequence 🙂 So fun to know about it while it was being filmed, and wonderful to see it (on DVD, as I never got a chance to see it in the theater sadly).
Enjoying the other post on this !

“Chariots of Fire” would be my favourite. The true story of two British track athletes competing in the 1924 Olympics, one a Jew and the other a Christian. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this movie but I never forget it especially if I hear Vangelis’ “Chariots of Fire” on the radio, it always takes me back to that movie, unforgettable!
Cheers

How about “The Karate Kid?” That’s one of my all-time favorites.
But Daniel-Day Lewis is quite inspiring. Love that man!

Hands down, Bull Durham. It’s a chick movie and a guy movie. It has so many great quotes in it that I still remember and make me laugh out loud, eg: Women don’t get woolly, they get weary, don’t you hate when people can’t get the words to songs right?” Ha! And when Kevin Costner has Susan Sarandon tied to the bed to paint her toenails… great scene. Love it! Always will.

The big win is still listed as one of the top 100 British sports moments.
