Here’s a collection of some of the songs I listened to while writing Just Breathe. I tend to find songs that remind me of each character. Enjoy!
Congrats to yesterday’s winner, selected by www.random.org –Miz White Roses herself, Darla! A copy of Just Breathe and one of Love in Bloom will be winging their way to you soon. I loved everyone’s input about favorite flowers. Amy gets the prize for funniest comment. 🙂 And I think it’s so touching that our faves are almost always tied to an emotional memory. Mine are peonies, thanks to a childhood memory of cutting them in the yard with my mom to make a bouquet for my teacher. The petals were always wet with the rain and we’d have to shake them off. There were always a few ants on board but they were the harmless black variety.
Or…wait! Lily of the Valley, my birthday flower! Smells so good I get high! And OMG nightshade! I need to stop now. I still have pages to write before quittin’ time.
I’m doing another drawing tomorrow. Post a song recommendation in the comments. I know music choice is tricky, so personal and such a matter of taste. But I’m always open to hearing new artists. Help us discover someone new! And you might win the drawing–a signed copy of Just Breathe and a two-pack of Heath and Reese’s popcorn. What’s sweeter than that?

I never seem to click the right post to leave a comment. I stuck this in yesterday’s post, but I’ll repeat it here.
Definitely not a new song, but it was Dan Fogelberg’s “Leader of the Band” that provided the click moment for the hero in one of my books. When I heard the line, “And Papa, I don’t think I said I love you near enough,” I knew that was Blake’s problem. I was saddened to find that Dan Fogelberg had died before I thanked him for his music.

I listen to a variety of different songs but I think the best song out there is My Wish by Rascall Flatts….I have to beautiful little boys and I play this song for them because it just expresses every thing in my heart for them.

You can tell that I am a senior by what I like to hear ! Most anything by John Denver, he is/was so mellow. Mandy or any of the others. I have a good time listening to some of James Taylor, with Pam’s help !

Sarah MacLachan is a favorite of mine. Angel is a favorite, of course, but I Will Remember You holds a special place in my heart. My youngest son sang a little of it to me at the airport as he was leaving a few years ago for Japan to teach English-he’s in Beijing now. He’s a good sport and went with my sister, my niece and I to one of her concerts, even tho’ he didn’t think it was too manly of a place for a college guy to be.

I have such a wide variety of tastes in music and LOVE anything that gets me up and going, but what I really like are songs that invoke a certain image in my mind. And I love songs that make me want to take road trips…So, that being said, I really enjoy the version of “Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts, but my other favorite makes me think of riding a Harley down some open back country road, wind in my hair, sun on my face….mmmmm, needing to take a raod trip now… Craig Chiquico – Sacred Ground.

I LOVE Sarah MacLachlan too, and was obsessed with her in high school. But my song recommendation for today is “I’m Yours” by Jaon Mraz. (On Youtube, listen to the live version from Korea). It’s such a fun upbeat song. My 2 year old likes to try to sing along with it.
Susan, you had posted the Just Breathe play list a while ago, and now Anna Nalick’s song is on my favorites list. Thanks for introducing me to her.

My first pick is the obvious, “Just Breathe” by Faith Hill 🙂 I’m sure Faith would be proud to have the theme song for your new book. She’s a very intelligent gal–she probably reads your books!

“We’ve Only Just Begun” by The Carpenters…isn’t every morning an “only just begun” day? with anything possible each and every day if we just begin to think /act upon it?

I have to go with Mat Kearney’s “Breathe In Breathe Out” – featured in Grey’s Anatomy Season 3. My all time favorite “Shower the People” by James Taylor, because it resonates in my soul and is so firmly connected with my late husband and the classy man who wrote it, JT.

I know a lot of you won’t know this singer, but I love Shirly Bassey, she sang the title song Goldfinger in the James Bond movie by the same title, and she recorded a song called ” This Is My Life” and always thought that song was written with me in mind.!!

Here’s a couple of songs I will always love –
Rascal Flatts “Bless the Broken Road” (I think that’s the title)
Joni Mitchell “River” always makes me sad but man, it’s a beautiful tune. I don’t paint, but for some reason this song makes me want to paint! How weird is that?

I just listened to “Breathe in, Breathe out” by Mat Kearney. Beautiful song, very moving. I heard a song I loved when I was growing up on Saturday night after our oldest son’s soccer game – “Spirit in the Sky” by Norman Greenbaum. Great song to dance at a wedding to get every one up on the dance floor. My favourite song is “When She Believes” Ben Harper from the Diamonds on the Inside CD. Our youngest son picked that song for the dance with me. I cried like a crazy mama when I heard the words. My baby boy, all grown up, picked this song for me. It said it all. All the growing up stuff. He loves me and understands his mother’s heart. Has Elizabeth picked out a song for her dance with Jay, her father? At weddings there seems to be 3 special dances now. The beautiful couple. Father and Daughter. Mother and Son. It was the best!

Oooh, “I Shall Believe” is a really good one! Nice job, Amber! My pick is “Destiny” by Zero 7. I love Sia’s voice, and her solo projects are just a good! I have an entire Pandora station with her music as the main theme! Perfect background music for having on while doing something you enjoy!
Wait…am I too late for this drawing now…I just realized the date. Oh well! Here’s to discovering new music!

I’m days late and dollars short with this, but I can’t pass up the chance to recommend anything by Warren Zevon, especially ‘Veracruz’ and the live version of French Inhaler from Learning To Flinch.
