MAY NEWS FROM SUSAN WIGGS
“…you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable / And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table / No one can find the rewind button, girl / So cradle your head in your hands / And breathe... just breathe…” – Anna Nalick, “Breathe(2am)”

Dear Friends,I’m so excited to announce that JUST BREATHE will be available in paperback on April 28. I can’t tell you how attached I grew to Sarah as I wrote her story – and I’m thrilled that this reissue will breathe new life into her tale.
From Publishers Weekly:“Bestselling author Wiggs (Snowfall at Willow Lake) keeps her romance reputation going with this feel-good story of a wronged woman who gets out on her own and gets going. Sarah Moon, a comic-strip writer, is happily married to Jack Daly—until she comes home to find him entwined and naked with a business associate he had badmouthed to her just hours earlier. After five years of marriage, including months of infertility treatments because of Jack's cancer, infidelity is the last straw, and Sarah pack ups and leaves Chicago for her hometown of Glenmuir, Calif. Sarah uses her comic strip, Just Breathe, to vent her frustration and relieve her stress. The character, Shirl, is undergoing fertility treatments, getting a divorce and moving back in with her mom. (Comic strips open each section of the novel). And in Glenmuir, lo and behold, Sarah's dreams come true. She finds out she's pregnant, and begins a friendship with her high school nemesis, Will Bonner, who's now the town fire captain and a single dad whose lonely daughter reminds Sarah of herself as a young girl. Wiggs takes serious situations and weaves them into an emotionally wrought story that will have readers reaching for the Kleenex one moment and snickering out loud the next.”
“A man who waits to believe in action before acting is anything you like, but he's not a man of action. You must act as you breathe.” - Georges Clemenceau
There's more info and links to buy or request from the library on my web site, www.susanwiggs.com.
I tried my hand at making another YouTube video. Take a look if you’d like to see the images I used for inspiration while writing JUST BREATHE – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DJkznTSZiI
Here's a list of my upcoming titles for 2009. I’ve got a lot of writing to do! And I’ll answer your next question now: Yes, I will most definitely be telling Daisy’s story in the next couple of books. She’s got a surprise in store in October’s LAKESHORE CHRISTMAS… but that’s all I’ll say for now.
Just Breathe (paperback reissue) - In stores now!Lord of the Night (paperback reissue) - June Irish Magic 2 (anthology; reissue) – JuneTwo of the Deadliest: New Tales of Lust, Greed, and Murder from Outstanding Women of Mystery edited by Elizabeth George (anthology) -- JulyAt the King's Command (reissue; original title was Circle in the Water) - August The Maiden's Hand (reissue; original title was Vows Made in Wine) - September At the Queen's Summons (reissue; original title was Dancing on Air) - October Lakeshore Christmas - October
Stay tuned for even more book announcements. Until then, I’ll be watching the wildlife on my beach and preparing for the biggest event of my daughter's life -- her wedding. I can’t wait!

A Summer Treat
Here's something cold and sweet, just what you’ll be needing in the months ahead:
Rosemary Lemonade—back by popular demand
In the Old Country version of “Sleeping Beauty,” the princess was awakened from her enchanted slumber with a whiff of rosemary-scented water. The prince was probably miles away, lost -- and unwilling to ask directions.
2 cups water
2 cups sugar 2 cups lemon juice Grated rind of one lemon2 sprigs of rosemaryIce cubes Cold water or club soda
Combine the water and sugar in a saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Boil the liquid three minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the lemon juice, lemon rind and rosemary. Refrigerate at least one hour. Strain the mixture into a storage container. To fix a glass of lemonade, place 5 to 6 ice cubes in a drinking glass. Fill the glass about a third full with the lemon syrup, add water or club soda to the top of the glass, stir and drink. Makes about 3 servings.
“Do not be afraid that joy will make the pain worse; it is needed like the air we breathe.” - Goran Persson
Enjoy the sunshine!

Susan, I just viewed the YouTube video as well as an earlier one where you mentioned your deadline for Fireside and I loved it! I'm off to write something on my favorite place to 'just breathe'.

   Susan,

"Just Breathe" was okay. I enjoyed "Fireside" much, much better. I enjoy reading your books, but think "Table for Five" is still my favorite.

I still don't understand why you have to use the Lord's name as expletives in your books. I know it doesn't bother other readers, but it sure stops me when I am reading and interrupts the story.

Thanks for the good stories. Oh, and where do I "Just Breathe"? In a good book that takes me everywhere I am unable to physically visit.

Respectfully,

Luv2read

Thank you, Luv2Read. I respect and value all readers' opinions! Every firefighter I interviewed, researching this book, tells me that salty talk comes with the job. Sometimes there's only one thing to say when confronted with an exploding propane tank!

I love the setting of JUST BREATHE so much - the Point Reyes National Sea Shore. It's a magical place, parts of it still recovering from the fires of 1995.

Susan, I've just finished reading "Just Breathe" and loved it so much, it was beautiful and made me overwhelmed with so many different emotions (I'm such a softy, had a good cry). I promptly lent it to a friend from work who also loved it. I'm reading "Lakeside Cottage" now and WOW at times I think I could do with having a cold shower!I've spent the last two nights reading up very late (a little blurry eyed at work!)and I hope to finish it in the next day or so. I love the wonderful characters in JD & Kate - the chemistry between them is palpable and at times hilarious funny (especially the lingerie scenes/comments by JD). The scene in the hospital when Callie has JD & Kate at her bedside is so touching - her thoughts of how she sees the two of them and their unconditional love and concern for her was beautiful. Also the wonderful relationship JD is developing with Aaron (I'm just up to the bush walk scene after he throws the camera). Anyway I just thought I'd let you know that whether it has something to do with being a sole parent myself of two beautiful girls I really can relate to the Kate's worries and appreciate the elation also that she experiences has as a parent. I'll let you know how I feel at the end of the book, but I think I'm becoming a fan of your style - who doesn't need a bit of romance even if it's only from reading a book!

   Susan,
I said I'd let you know what I thought of your wonderful "Lakeside Cottage" following my last message - OMG I'm jumping out of my skin, that was wonderful, I feel all warm & fuzzy with love for those characters I didn't want it to end!! I went through a roller-coaster of emotions when they were on the ferry and from then on I was in my own little world, I think the house could of caught on fire and I wouldn't have known. That's 2 down of your books, I'm not sure how many to go, but I'm starting "Home Before Dark" in about 2 minutes!

Hi Sandy -- I am the world's nosiest person! I constantly ask people about their jobs, their travels, families, interests....you name it. That's one way to give a fictional character an authentic "feel," I think. For JUST BREATHE I mainly talked to 2 guys. One a retired Captain from California. He's the husband of a friend and fellow writer--Elizabeth George. It doesn't hurt a thing that he looks like a young Steve McQueen. <G> And I also visited with an EMT and local firefighter I met at a fundraiser.

I usually call or meet with them in person, initally, and then follow up with e-mail as necessary.

Steve McQueen gave me the BLEVE incident in JUST BREATHE.

You spoke with THE Steve McQueen? WOW!

I learned about BLEVE in a disaster course that I took. It was cull of Police officers and Firemen, and I found them to be a fascinating bunch.

Well, he's a Steve McQueen lookalike. It would be kinda frustrating to talk to Steve himself. <G>
