A gracious hello to booklovers one and all! Here's the place to post about pretty much anything that's on your mind. You can ask Susan anything-how old she is, how much money she makes, how much she weighs...but just remember, she's a fiction writer! But her mom's here to keep her honest...and tasteful. Susan and I will check in often to shoot the breeze with you. Jump on in! --ClaraLou

"What is Everyone Reading?"

LAST EDITED ON Jul-30-09 AT 03:15 PM (PDT)

Its been awhile so I'd thought I'd resurrect this.....

I found a new author that I have never read, Adriana Trigiana. I've just begun her new novel, Very Valentine. So far, I really like the book.

I've read all of Sheryyl Woods reissues of Trinity Harbor:
About that Man
Along Came Trouble
Ask Anyone
Her new series, Chesapeake Shores just came out April 1st, The Inn at Eagle Point, then next month Flowers on Main

Linda Lael Millers new Montana Creeds:
Logan and Dylan...TBR pile is Tyler - these are way hot

Debbie Macombers reissues - Midnight Sons, TBR Matchmakers

Of course, Susan's Fireside

You need to check out Robyn Carr's Virgin River Series:
Second Chance Pass
Temptation Ridge
Paradise Valley......You need kleenex for these books as they'll touch your heart and soul

Which brings me to Maeve Binchy's new book on my TBR pile, Heart & Soul

Stef Ann Holm's, All That Matters

Upcoming Books on my TBR pile (which seems to be growing)- Love In Bloom by Sheila Roberts, Nora Roberts has a Wedding series, Vision in White, Black Hills, & Bed of Roses.

I would like to read some books by Curtis Ann Matlock this year.

What are you reading?

Margaret

I've wanted to read Adriana Trigiani. She signed near me, but I couldn't make it. Eventually...

I have all of the Virgin River books. A friend gave them to me, but I haven't started them yet.

I'm currently reading American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld for bookclub. It was my pick and the first time my bookclub is reading an author we've read before. I'm not a huge fan of the author, but I was too curious not to choose it. I think it'll be a good discussion book.

I have no idea what is up next, but I have many good ones from which to choose including Fireside, Samantha James, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Jill Shalvis, Lori Foster. Not to mention that I preordered J.R. Ward and Nora Roberts for April.

I read BIG STONE GAP by Adriana Trigiani and looooved it. Must read some others by her.

I'm currently reading WRONGFUL DEATH by Robert Dugoni. I should write a review on my blog because it's really wonderful. He is one of those rare male writers who gets the women exactly right in his books, and tells a suspenseful, emotional, relevant story.

On my nightstand I have an ARC of the new Alice Hoffman (The ____ Sisters) and several research books about WITSEC (witness protection program).

Currently listening to the unabridged FIRESIDE on my ipod. It's the only way I can stand to re-read my books, and it also refreshes and motivates me to write the next Lakeshore book, which now has a title and everything. A really good reader (Brilliance always uses them) brings things to life in a story I never even realized were there! On that poorly constructed sentence I will go back to the Opus at hand.

I read my first Kindle book, The House on Tradd Street by Karen White. I am now onto my second which is Two Rivers by T. Greenwood. Both are new authors to me, and I've been very happy with my choices!

I have think I have read all of Robyn Carr's books.
Just finished Runaway Mistress. When I started it I discovered I had already read it but read it again. Now it will be almost a year for her next book.
I don't know how I missed Sherryl Woods all these years. I have been reading hers. I have the Trinity Harbor books to read.
I just bought 2 Curtiss Ann Matlock. Cold Tea on a hot day and Sweet Dreams at the Goodnight Motel.
Oh well maybe I will get my spring cleaning done by next year.

I have not been here for awhile, but I am still a lover of all of Susan's books. I came across a copy of The Drifter the other day at the lending library that I take care of and seeing as I had never read it, I took it home. What a wonderful story! I am always so happy when I come across one of your books that is 'out of print', which this copy was, I know I have a good read ahead of me.

I am trying to work my way through my TBR pile here before buying a Kendle2 and am working on some of Barbara Delinsky's olders ones that I also came across. She too is a good read.

Now I'm reading THE GEOMETRY OF SISTERS by Luanne Rice (excellent, just love her) and waiting for THE STORY SISTERS by Alice Hoffman.

Don't forget LOVE IN BLOOM by Sheila Robert -- new in April. It is absolutely wonderful. Laughter and tears!

I just cried my way through "Firefly Lane" by Kristin Hannah. If you graduated from high school around 1978 -- give or take a couple of years -- this book will definitely take you down memory lane.

Prior to that, I read Jodi Picoult's "Handle With Care."

I'm not sure what I will pick up next, but I think I need something that doesn't require my having a box of tissues close at hand!

My reading habits are kind of odd. I usually have several different books going that are all slightly different in tone. That way I can match my reading to my mood.

Currently Reading:

Harry Potter Series
--I read this every May and October. Right now we're on the 20th read-thru. Laugh all you want, but these are so multilayered and have so many easter eggs that I find something new every time I revisit.

Child 44 (Tom Rob Smith)
--Fictional recounting of the Chikatilo Serial Murders in Russia, set not in the 80s but the 50s.

This is a wonderfully well-written book that is also dismal. I'm trying to keep at it even though the setting (Stalinist Russia a decade after WWII) is bleak.

Enchanted Afternoon (Susan Wiggs)
--I'm not saying this to kiss up to Susan. I really am reading it. It's a very nice antidote to the bleakness of Child 44 and it's got more sex than Harry Potter. So it's the one I pick up when I want fun and not-so-chaste romance.

Little Women
--I'm revisiting the classics this year so that I sound impressive when I say "I'm revisiting the classics this year." That and I figure it's about time.

TBR Pile:

There are (at last count) about 700 books in this and I'm not going to list them all. At the top of the list are

Tom Jones (Henry Fielding)--Revisit The Classics program
The Book Of The Thousand Nights and The One Night--RTC
Daemon (Daniel Suarez)--Technical Thriller
Heart And Soul (Maeve Binchy)

If you find yourself liking Adriana T, I encourage you to check out River Jordan. She's a local author from my neck of the woods who writes similar things.

I've only read one of Robyn Carr's Virgin River series. I liked much of the book but the sex was too graphically explicit for my taste. I like sex in books, but I like it a bit more genteel. Generally if the words 'throbbing' and/or 'moist' are there I just skip to the next part.

I discovered Susan Wiggs about five years ago, and hers are my favorites. I've read about ten by now. I love to read, but Susan's books are my 'treat'...I save them for vacations and and as rewards when I achieve goals.
I've read two books which absolutely make me laugh out loud...Ain't She Sweet by Susan Elizabeth Phillips and "Can You Keep a Secret?" by Sophie Kinsella. No wait, make that three..David Sedaris is laugh out loud funny (not chick lit).
The book that stays with me the most recently is "Souvenir" by Therese Fowler, her first book and it is phenomenal, very compelling.
OK, off to finish "Just Breathe".

I just anxiously await the release of any Susan Wiggs book. But until the next one, I am reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. An oldie but a goodie!

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to Susan Wiggs' books but in the last 2 weeks I've read "Just Breathe", Lakeside Cottage" and about 5 minutes ago I finished "Home Before Dark" and feeling a little drained from the tears and emotions. Another beautifully written book, had me totally swept up in the world of Jessie & her family.
Wow, Susan's amazing! I'm totally hooked and have just put the 1st & 2nd of the "Lakeside Chronicles" on hold at the library over the internet.
I have a question that I'd love answered - "Where can I get one of those guys in those books?"
Anyway, I've got a number of other books to choose from to read now -perhaps one of the Jodi Picoult books I have waiting for me to read, we'll see.
Cheers

Carmel

I wanted to review this to see what I've actually read since April.
Very Valentine was a great book and I plan to get her other books.

Chesapeake Shores trilogy was a nice visit with a family that has a central matriarich/patriarich. Similar to King in her Trinity Harbor and MacGregor in Nora Roberts's MacGregor clan series.

Linda's series of her new Montana creeds was truly hot. I love reading about her cowboys. Her new book, The Bridegroom is out and I need to make a trip to the store!

I've only read the Vol 1 of Midnight sons, But I read Summer on Blossom Street. Another meaningful trip to this area and its residents.I am looking forward to 92 Pacific Blvd and her upcoming cookbook centered around Cedar Cove.

I really enjoyed Sheila Roberts, Love in Bloom...I gave it to my mom and she liked it, althought my mom and sister have a hard time moving away from Jane Austen and the likes. Contemporary is not their "thing". Sheila has a new upcoming book, Angel Lane. How cool is that?

Then of course Susan's new Lakeshore Christmas and other Christmas books that will be published by our fav authors.

I did read Vision in White; its a nice change for Nora in my opinion. Its reminds me of her earlier writings. I have Black Hills in my TBR Pile.

Happines Key by Emilie Richards....what a nice mix of friends! She has a follow-up called Fortunate Harbor.

Right now I am reading Return to Sullivan's Island by Dorothea Benton Frank.Great Book but I think you need to read Sullivans Islands first

On the patio - SAY GOODBYE by Lisa Gardner
in the bed - THE PROMISED WORLD by Lisa Tucker
on the couch - THE STORY SISTERS by Alice Hoffman

...this barely made a dent in the tbr pile.

I need several more hours in the day!

I just finished reading 'The You I Never Knew' by Susan Wiggs(loved it) and am going to start the book 'The Letter Sweater' by Skip Crayton.

I love the Robyn Carr Virgin River series and Sheryl Woods books. I think I have all of Susan's books loaded on my Kindle ready to read too. I keep going back to see if any new one's have been added to the Kindle format.

I've just finished "The Winter Lodge" this afternoon and OMG it was so exciting (I had to sneak a read at work to finish it) and I was so relieved for Jenny & Rourke (I love those characters!.My only problem now is I have to wait for "Dockside" to be available from the library in a few weeks or hopefully my ordered copy will arrive before that. Loving these wonderful stories they are fantastic!!!! I've also just finished last week "Salem fall" another Jodi Picoult book - had me spell bound until even the lst line of the book, there were plenty of surprises in that novel. I'm going to read one of Susan Krinard's books next and then I'll read "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak (great Aussie writer), so I'll let you know what I think of both.
Cheers

Right now I am reading the Molly Murphy series by Rhys Bowen. After that I will finish the trilogy by Norah Roberts--Blood Brothers, The Hollow and The Pagan Stone. Just bought the Lakeshore Christmas! Will read that closer to Christmas! Maybe sooner! Also read a lot of Lisa Jackson's books this past summer. Bought all of the Lakeshore Chronicle books! Will reread them at some point!

thanks Debby! I read a couple of debut works lately. DOUBLE TAKE, a memoir by Kevin Michael Connolly, a one-of-a-kind book by a one-of-a-kind guy. And WHEN AUTUMN LEAVES by Amy S. Foster. Wonderful novel for fans of PRACTICAL MAGIC.

>Since I just finished a week ago, Lakeshore Christmas and not so patiently waiting for the next in the series, lol, I am reading another one of my favorite series. Margaret Truman's Capital Crime Series, Murder at Ford's Theater. My daughter for this past Christmas got me a lot of her books in that series and I love them.

I'm reading "French Fried" by Chris Dolley, a memoir about an English couple who sell everything and move to France, only to find that their life savings have been stolen. I'm about halfway through it, and really enjoying it.

And actually, I'm just testing the message board, because someone said they were getting an error.
