Dear Friends,

It’s a bittersweet moment for me as I think back over the Lakeshore Chronicles series. When Summer At Willow Lake was published, the topic was a 50th wedding anniversary, based on the celebration my family had for my parents. In fact, I dedicated the novel to them.

Yesterday, I learned the book is on the New York Times Bestseller List once again. For that I have readers to thank.

The very next day, my author copies of Starlight on Willow Lake arrived at my doorstep.

I’m so excited for you to read this new novel. Like the first Lakeshore book, Starlight on Willow Lake (aka Lakeshore #11) is dedicated to my parents. By now, they’ve been married for 61 years.

But it’s particularly poignant, because my sweet dad passed away this month. I’m still in a fog of missing him. He loved the Lakeshore books and was always my biggest cheerleader.

In honor of my dad, here is his favorite Old Fashioned recipe. Cheers, Dad!

Just a reminder that if you preorder Starlight on Willow Lake, you can receive some fun e-mails with exclusive content about this upcoming book. Plus, you’ll be automatically entered in the drawing for a collection of swanky things guaranteed to please any reader. So if you preordered the book, or plan to, take 30 seconds to fill out this form, and you’re in!

Thanks to all for sticking with the Lakeshore Chronicles through thick and thin.

  • I can relate to what you’re going through; I lost my dad at the end of April. I am remembering all the good and funny “dad stories”, which come to mind often. But every once in awhile, it hits me that I’ll never see or hear him again until we meet in heaven. That is a great comfort!

  • I’m so sorry Susan to read about your Dad’s passing. There are no words. 67 years married, wonderful. All we can do is deal with each day.
This is one of my favorite series.

  • I lost my dad this year on Groundhogs Day. It was his and my moms 67th anniversary. We lost her in 2008. Things happen almost every day that I think I should call him about, still do that once in a while about my mom. Keep all the wonderful memories in your heart.

  • I am so sorry to hear about your father. He was a dashing and charming looking gentleman, and I’m sure you’ll feel his presence around you. I’m also sorry to see that this will be the last book in the series. Where will I live now?

  • Susan – so sorry to hear that you lost your dad and his connection to such a beloved series of books. Please know that your readers (like me) genuinely love this series and this finale will be remembered for many reasons – the last of the Bellamy family; but more so, the last of the series that your dad would have read….with love for his daughter!

  • Your dad was a big part of your life, and you shared him with all of your readers. “A fog”. Is a good way to describe what your going thru. When my mom died five years ago, you sent the nicest “post”. It takes time, and you will always miss him. Memories are great though. All the great photos of your folks will comfort you some day. Peace &

  • Susan, my thanks for your wonderful series of people to love. My heart goes out to you now with the loss of your dad. My folks celebrated their 62nd anniversary in June before he passed in Sept of ’95. Mom waited 15 years before she joined him 3 months after her 95th birthday in 2010. Treasure the happy memories you will always have.

  • My dad passed away almost 13 years ago at the age of 75. I was only 39. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss him. I feel your pain. I am so sorry for your loss. Know that the sharp edge of grief softens and the memories become a wonderful comfort. It takes time. Hugs sent your way…

  • Sympathies on the loss of your Dad, but hug the thought that you had so many years with him and were able to store up all the memories for the times when it hits you he is gone. Birthdays, Christmas etc. They are very hard.

  • ….oops,p.s. meant to say “Thank You” for your Dad’s favorite recipe…it is my Husband’s favorite beverage, too! I’ll follow this recipe for our Anniversary dinner August 7th.
